Hi! I’m Annie and I’ve been working with tarot Hi! I’m Annie and I’ve been working with tarot as a tool for self-discovery and personal growth for over a decade. I’m also a literature and mythology professor, so my unique brand of tarot combines intellect AND intuition. I believe it’s at that intersection where the magic really happens, and my newsletter dwells at that crossroads.

My best-selling Substack, The Tarot Professor, contains juicy and informative how-tos sharing all sorts of tarot basics, advanced tarot tips, and step-by-step guides. PLUS, we dig deep, have tarot-inspired heart-to-hearts, and even drop a few F-bombs. We go beyond basic tarot how-tos and tarot tips and have deeper, more intimate conversations about the real-life wisdom tarot has to offer.

Check it out at the link in my bio and join the party already! 🔮🌟💜
Just a friendly reminder at a time when I know a l Just a friendly reminder at a time when I know a lot of us are doing predictive "year ahead" type tarot spreads:

You have the power to change your story, no matter what the tarot cards say.

"What does 2026 have in store for me?" type tarot questions and tarot spreads can be super fun to do. They can help us plan and dream and prepare. I love my new year rituals as much as the next girl.

I am also a staunch believer in the unfixed nature of the energy tarot might reveal. So if you ask me, you are not "fated" or "destined" for anything that comes up in a tarot reading. You can always reflect, recalibrate, and explore alternative options. You are always free to figure out how you can change course or, at the very least, why some energy or potentiality is triggering you or frightening you and make peace with it. Or lean into it and make it work for you! Or straight up reject it. Whatever you want.

Because again, you have the power to change your story no matter what the tarot cards say.

Wishing you a 2026 filled with joy, love, ease, and empowerment. 🌟🐚💜💪🏼

A 2017 study published in the Journal of Research A 2017 study published in the Journal of Research in Personality found that curiosity isn’t simply a characteristic that some people have and others don’t. After studying the passions and interests, areas of expertise, consumer behavior, and social media use of various people, the researchers discovered evidence of four distinct curiosity types:

The Fascinated

The Problem Solver

The Empathizer

The Avoider

I immediately devoured the article (nerd alert!) to figure out which type I am, obviously, but also to see if recognizing these various types might help me engage more of my students, who are certainly not all the same.

What does any of this have to do with tarot? Well, I realized that each of these curiosity types correlated remarkably well with one of the tarot Pages, which are often defined as the curious seekers and students of the tarot.

Reading tarot for myself is one of the primary way Reading tarot for myself is one of the primary ways I check in with myself, tap into my intuition, and find my footing when life (and my ego!) gets loud.

In The Tarot Professor, my best-selling Substack column, I write about tarot as a reflective practice of intuitive self-discovery. I linger with a single tarot card, explore the myths and archetypes that seem to relate to what the card is showing me at the time, notice patterns, and share my insights and tips to help you expand your own tarot practice.

The images in this post all come from recent posts, each centered on a single tarot card and what opened up for me as I sat with it thoughtfully, before I started yammering away to you about it at my keyboard, of course.

If you are drawn to tarot as a tool for reflection, intuitive meaning-making, and becoming, I think you'll enjoy what I'm writing over there. 👉🏼🔗🪪 @thetarotprofessor 👈🏼

Hawaii Reset Part 2! 🍍🌺 So I have a confess Hawaii Reset Part 2! 🍍🌺

So I have a confession to make. If it wasn’t for my nephews and sharing this fun vacation with them, I probably wouldn’t have booked it. I see my husband all the time, I would say to myself. I can hang out with him at home, where I can conveniently also dive into my writing and creative work in earnest now that the semester is over and the emails have finally stopped. (Spoiler alert: The emails never stop and there will always be something pulling me away from my creative endeavors.) So that juggling is something I am focusing on doing differently in 2026. (Among other things.)

It’s also fun traveling with kids because my travel research looks SO different. Would I have rented a car to drive to the North Shore to visit the ridiculously commercialized (but well done I must say) Dole plantation and purchased gigantically juicy chunks of pineapple dipped in milk chocolate after a ride on the Pineapple Express (“yes, just like the Polar Express, but make it Hawai’i ”) without my nephews there? Probably not.

Also for someone obsessed with turtlenecks and bookshops and London, I had a lot of Hawai’i appropriate attire hiding in my closet! Here’s to more of the atypical in 2026! 🏝️🐚

What’s something you want to experience more of in 2026?
