A tarot deck is designed to reflect life back at u A tarot deck is designed to reflect life back at us, which means the suits aren’t just four cute symbols picked to help move the design of the Minor Arcana along! The suits represent the four elements of the Universe, which rule the four main areas of our lives.

Tarot 101: Understanding the elemental meaning of the suits is particularly helpful when you are drawing a general daily card without asking a specific question. It’s also helpful when you ask a more general question like “What do I need to focus on?” or “What is it time to release?” In these cases, knowing what the suit stands for helps give more direction and focus to the tarot reading. If a certain suit is prevalent or noticeably missing from a larger spread, that’s interesting to look at too!

Life is a mystery to be lived, not a problem to be solved. 🌹🥀
NAME THAT TAROT CARD! I almost didn't post NAME THAT TAROT CARD!

I almost didn't post this because this quote is commonly attributed to two people - both Kierkegaard AND Joseph Campbell (though phrased a bit differently). And I don't love the uncertainty!

But therein lies the irony. The Major Arcana tarot card this quote reminds me of often asks us to do just that: sit with uncertainty or the mystery and magic of life that cannot always be neatly defined and explained away by our rational minds. Sometimes we solve problems through other ways of knowing, like through our emotional intelligence, spiritual knowledge, or intuitive feelings. And other times, the problem does not get solved, not because we don’t know enough but because the nature of the question is such that there is no certain answer or explanation.

Can you guess which Major Arcana tarot card I’m thinking of? 🩵
