I'm constantly referring to the Major and Minor Arcana of the tarot here and in my tarot newsletter, but not everybody uses those terms all of the time. If you're a tarot beginner who is just starting to learn to read tarot, you might have also heard the terms "trump card" and "pip card." Swipe through or read on below for what they mean.

Trump cards refer to the 22 Major Arcana cards of the deck, and pip cards refer to the numbered Minor Arcana cards of the deck (Ace through Ten). And last, of course, are our court cards, which are usually called court cards as far as I know. Have you heard of any other terms for the tarot court cards? In a regular deck of playing cards, they're sometimes called "face cards," but that doesn't work for a tarot deck since there are faces everywhere!

In Tarot Disassembled, @jennifercoopersteidley dec In Tarot Disassembled, @jennifercoopersteidley deconstructs the symbolism in each Rider Waite Smith tarot card to help us isolate the symbols we want to focus on as well as reconnect them and uncover deeper meaning across cards we may not have associated before. AND, there’s a beautiful guidebook sold separately if you want to dig even deeper (which, yes please, always)!

What is some RWS symbolism that has always caught your eye??? And, have you purchased this deck yet? Let me know!
In The Power of Ritual: Turning Everyday Activitie In The Power of Ritual: Turning Everyday Activities into Soulful Practices, author and Harvard Divinity School Fellow Casper ter Kuile explores different ways we can find meaning, purpose, and connection in everyday rituals, especially now that so many of us no longer seek these things within traditionally religious spaces and communities.

And, to probably nobody’s surprise, the way that sparked the interest of this literature professor the most was the ritual of ✨SACRED READING, or LECTIO DIVINA.✨

As I read about this sacred reading practice, I quickly realized that it could be applied to tarot as well. Really naturally and beautifully in fact!

In this week’s tarot newsletter, I lay out the steps of lectio divina, or reading sacred texts, and show you exactly how to incorporate this beautiful ritual into your existing tarot practice to elevate and transform your tarot readings. I even give you a peek into my tarot journaling on the 9 of Pentacles.

If you didn't get it emailed to you this weekend, read it by going you know where! 👉🏼🔗🪪@thetarotprofessor👈🏼

Let me know if you try this method with your tarot cards! Have you read The Power of Ritual? If so, what did you think?
Hi! 👋🏼 I’m Annie, writer of a best-selling Hi! 👋🏼 I’m Annie, writer of a best-selling tarot newsletter on Substack called Office Hours with The Tarot Professor. I’m also an English professor.

I’ve been working with tarot for ten years, and it has been such a transformative force in my life that my mission is to bring its powers of self-discovery and intuitive guidance to others.

As an academic, I’m an intellectual and even a bit of a skeptic! I’m not a fortune-teller, and I don’t read tarot professionally. I read tarot for myself and teach others to do the same. My lens as a literature and mythology professor allows me to decode tarot as the rich and ridiculously relatable text that it is. In my newsletter, I dive deep into tarot archetypes and symbolism, illuminate themes, and apply them to our own lives to better understand ourselves and the world around us. (To learn more about that, you know where to go 👉🏼🔗🪪@thetarotprofessor)

I’d love to learn more about you! Please say hi below and tell me about yourself. What’s your tarot practice like? What led you to it? Have any questions for me? Ask away! 🌻
I’ve been reading The Power of Ritual: Turning E I’ve been reading The Power of Ritual: Turning Everyday Activities into Soulful Practices by Casper Ter Kuile. It is inspiring me in so many fun and creative ways! I checked it out from the library but I’m pretty sure I’m going to purchase a copy for myself so I can return to it again. Have you read it? It inspired this quick tarot tip as well:

QUICK TAROT TIP: Rituals are great ways to transition into ✨tarot mode✨ and tune into our intuition. But tarot rituals are not one size fits all. Feel free to be as simple or ceremonial as you like. Do what works for you!

Do you have any tarot rituals that you do before, during, or after any readings? Let me know below!
