The reason tarot has the power to tap into our unc The reason tarot has the power to tap into our unconscious and activate our intuition is because it’s a SYMBOLIC language.⁠ ⁠ Images, colors, and symbols speak to us in a way words can’t. In fact, archetypes - although we necessarily describe them in words to be able to express and discuss them - are actually, by definition, based on indefinable and abstract ideas that we FEEL and INSTINCTIVELY RECOGNIZE.⁠ ⁠ That’s why sometimes we turn over a tarot card and can identify with it or resonate with the picture we are looking at so deeply even if we have trouble articulating the message in words at first. That’s tarot communicating to our unconscious.⁠ ⁠ We then (at least this seems to be the order for me) turn to our intellect to translate, organize, and communicate the message in a way our conscious mind can understand as well. The suits represent the four elements of the Universe, which rule the four main areas of our lives.⁠ ⁠ Tarot 101: Understanding the elemental meaning of the suits is particularly helpful when you are drawing a general daily card without asking a specific question. It’s also helpful when you ask a more general question like “What do I need to focus on?” or “What is it time to release?” In these cases, knowing what the suit stands for helps give more direction and focus to the tarot reading. It's tarot vocabulary lesson time! ⁠ ⁠ I came It's tarot vocabulary lesson time! ⁠ ⁠ I came across the term "querent" a lot when I was first learning about tarot and reading a bunch of tarot books. The "querent" is the person for whom the tarot cards are being read. In other words, it's who is inquiring (same root word, see?) something of the cards. ⁠ ⁠ When you're reading tarot for yourself (which is how I work with the cards the most), you are simultaneously the reader AND the querent since you are both asking AND answering the tarot question.⁠ ⁠ What other words have you come across on your tarot journey that you didn't understand at first - or maybe still don't!?
